this is crazy man, … this is crazy man, storys are storys, people in prison red thoose comics becausse they where cheap and easy to read, plus they got to se something ilustrated from the outside world.
how is having a … how is having a case of superhero statues ( im not at that point) different from having a case full of dallas cowboys memoribilia and wheaties boxes and helmets? You can have any real role models anymore, michael phelps comes to mind.
didnt iron man and … didnt iron man and black widow have a sex tape in ultimates 3? didnt ant man shrink down and go inside of wasp’s vagina to pleasure her? how is that for kids? i am getting in shape to better my health and my life. I have always been overweight and could never be a superhero for halloween, im turning 24 and im gonna be nightwing this halloween, and people are still giving me for it. I have goals and ambitions, i have figured out my priorities, but since i read comics, im immature.
Wernstrom-I mean, … Wernstrom-I mean, Wertham! I’ve been doing a research paper on comic censorship and every time I read or hear something from this moron, I have to roll my eyes.
Thanks for the video posting. This’ll help me with my paper.
and television. … and television. look at south park 12 years and it is still the highest rated show in Comedy central. they just do this because they’re bored.
This guy had no … This guy had no idea what the he was talking about. and after the riduculous code of authority, juvenile crime still increased! later the guy was proven wrong and the comic books code of authority was disbanded in 2001. god bless the first amendment!
You’re suggesting … You’re suggesting that Marvel simply bent the rules of the censorship program and that changed comics forever. It didn’t, it was just a way of getting around them. With no censorship rules at all Marvel would’ve been free to do what Stan Lee set forward to accomplish anyway, they just would’ve had more freedom to do so.
If anything changed comics it was Watchmen, not some crappy censorship system. DC was kiddish before Wertham, it only got more so after. He had nothing to do with it.
DC itself already … DC itself already had pretty ordinary stories before Wertham. If you look at the early silver age of comics from the DC era they got some weird plots, but nothing truly violent or gritty. At the same time their audience was growing up, and Stan Lee saw this and wanted to create a hero that would connect with the growing audience and teenagers.
Again, Wertham had nothing to do with this. It was just the natural progression of a medium.
We still have those … We still have those comics, they’re made by independent companies now. So you’re wrong about them dying out.
And again, this was during the silver age of comics, it was when DC was establishing its own universe. Marvel itself was coming along in that regard as well to challenge DC. Wertham had nothing to do with Stan Lee creating Spider-Man creating more serious superheroes, evolution and change was inevitable. Marvel forced DC to change on its own, not Wertham. All he did was spew bullshit.
You have a point, … You have a point, but if you look at the highest and best selling books outside of the main publishing houses, DC and Fawcett, There was mainly gory horror and skimpy clad costumed ladies and specialized science fiction. All this died out after Wertham. I fail to see how this could have turned into the books we have today. While Marvel was publishing some of the heroes we see today…Captain America, Human Torch, Sub-Mariner, etc. I don’t see a evolution without Wertham’s impetus.
what is it with … what is it with haters they think just because there kid is doing something stupid they have to blame something. first it was Comics now its Video games.
He didn’t even have … He didn’t even have a control group for his studies! He failed the scientific method in so many ways! Even at time he published his works many people in the psychiatrist and scientific communities criticised him about.
Theres also a point to note, making sure mature comics don’t get into the hands of kids is important, thinking it turns them into murderers and rapists though was where Wertham and by contrast Jack Thompson go over the line.
Not entirely, I … Not entirely, I think the change would’ve happened even if he didn’t say anything. Mediums just naturally evolve, look at Video Games, they became violent on their own.
If you go back and … If you go back and read most of the DC comics from the late 50’s to the early 70’s they are really silly and mostly really made for children. The whole reason that Marvel was able to make it as a business was that it was able to bend the rules with it’s characters and market to a older audience. If it wasn’t for Wertham, we probably wouldn’t have Spider-Man or the FF. He made that possible by making all the DC stories so childish.
