most writers become know by having there work self published, You cant come to a company like marvel or DC with nothing to show for yourself. There is no need to work at a comic book store, as there is no guarantee of meeting anyone in the business, however you should go to comic conventions and met as many people as you can, try and show people your work, weather it by your art Portfolio or Original graphic novel. Generally you have to but alot of time and hard work, and be talented, build yourself a name in the "indy scene" before you become noticed enough to get mainstream work.
