You can try to do the appraisal yourself by using http://www.comicspriceguide.com It doesn't cost anything to join. They have articles on how to grade the books then you can look up the potential worth. If you think you own something valuable, I would recommend getting it professionally appraised. CGC (http://www.cgccomics.com/) can grade & preserve the comic so it will retain its value.
